ACT’s approved code for managing airborne crystalline silica in the workplace took effect July 1, 2024. The NI2024-339 register confirms its current in-force status and shows June 27 notification separately from substantive commencement.
The instrument approves a code under section 274 of the ACT Work Health and Safety Act. WorkSafe ACT’s silica page describes the local code and the separate engineered-stone prohibition that also began July 1.
The ACT silica-code record connects the approval with the local regulator route. Its subject extends to silica risk from engineered stone and other materials; the code’s publication does not turn every silica-containing material into a prohibited engineered-stone product.
Use the approved local document
APT’s practical interpretation is to keep the approved ACT code and applicable regulations together when preparing a silica procedure. A later national model code or a neighbouring jurisdiction’s training or notification process requires a separate local applicability check.
The register establishes the local approval. A full comparison with the September 2024 model processing framework remains outside this review. Replacement by the November 2025 national model code would need its own ACT instrument.
